Thought For The Day (3/31/2006)

Do not utter even a single harsh word; your True Lord and Master abides in all.

Do not break anyone’s heart; these are all priceless jewels. (129)

The minds of all are like precious jewels; to harm them is not good at all.

If you desire your Beloved, then do not break anyone’s heart. (130)

Ismeet Jee's Last Day Today in Cisco TAC

WJKK WJKF…

It’s Ismeet Jee’s last day today in Cisco TAC/CVG. All those at the CVG ORCD site.. would truly appreciate if you could find time for meeting and giving him a farewell at 2300 hrs today at the Craze Coffee Shop (There’s a choco-truffle cake waitin ;-) ).

Guru Ang Sang.

Daas,

Abhi

A prayer...Just for today

Lord, for tomorrow and its needs

Lord, for tomorrow and its needs
I do not pray;
keep me, my God, from stain of sin
just for today.

Let me both diligently work
and duly pray;
Let me be kind in word and deed,
just for today.

Let me be slow to do my will,
prompt to obey;
help me to sacrifice myself,
just for today.

Let me no wrong or idle word
unthinking say;
set thou a seal upon my lips
just for today.

Lord, for tomorrow and its needs
I do not pray;
but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord,
just for today.

Thanks Abhi, for these wonderful thoughts everyday, I appreciate and thank you for your efforts in taking out time and bring us closer to our God.

Thought For The Day (3/29/2006)

The elephant eats a hundred maunds of clarified butter and molasses.
And another five hundred maunds of corn.
He belches, blows and raises dust,
albeit he regrets the moment his breathing stops.

The blind die in self-conceit;
Those who are devoted to the Master are favoured.

Pecking half a corn, the sparrow chirps, flying high in
the sky.
God is pleased with the one who remembers
His Name.

The mighty tiger kills hundreds of deer which in turn,
eat others.
Overbearing, he wouldn't enter his den.
Albeit regrets the moment his breathing stops.
Whom does the blind beast impress with his roar?
The Master approves it not.

The milk-weed cricket adores the milk-weed
and eats it's leaves perching on it.
God is pleased with the one who remembers His name.
Says Nanak, in the four days of the world
The pursuit of pleasure spells pain.

There are many who talk about it,
but none can renounce the world.
The Fly gives it's life for its weakness for sweets.

Those whom You protect, to them no harm comes near.
They cross the dreadful ocean Lord God's fear.

Thought For The Day (3/31/2006).. Uthat Sukhia, Baithat Sukhia
Sleep thou care-free...

He who knoweth (the God) Pervading all,
is afflicted not by fear,

And is ever in bliss, in whichever state he be.
For, our only Refuge is our One Lord.
Ye, He, who is the inner knower of all hearts [1-pause]

So sleep thou care-free, O man, and awake in freedom.
For, the All-Powerful God pervadeth, and sustaineth , all.[2]

Such is the mantram ministered to me by the Guru,
that now there is nothing but peace for me both within and without.[3-2]

The Wise May Bring Their Learning

Anonymous; appeared in Book of Praise for Children, 1881

1. The wise may bring their learning, the rich may bring their wealth,
And some may bring their greatness, and some bring strength and health;
We, too, would bring our treasures to offer to the King;
We have no wealth or learning; what shall we children bring?

2. We'll bring Him hearts that love Him; we'll bring Him thankful praise,
And young souls meekly striving to walk in holy ways;
And these shall be the treasures we offer to the King,
And these are gifts that even the poorest child may bring.

3. We'll bring the little duties we have to do each day;
We'll try our best to please Him, at home, at school, at play;
And better are these treasures to offer to our King;
Than richest gifts without them--yet these a child may bring.

Of all religions, the best religion

is to chant the Name of the Lord and maintain pure conduct.

Of all religious rituals, the most sublime ritual

is to erase the filth of the dirty mind in the Company of the Holy.

Of all efforts, the best effort

is to chant the Name of the Lord in the heart, forever.

Of all speech, the most ambrosial speech

is to hear the Lord's Praise and chant it with the tongue.

Of all places, the most sublime place,

O Nanak, is that heart in which the Name of the Lord abides.

BILAAVAL, THIRD MEHL:

The perfect Lord has fashioned the Perfect Creation. Behold the Lord Lord pervading everywhere. In this play of the world, is the glorious greatness of the True Name. No one should take pride in himself. || 1 || One who accepts the wisdom of the True Guru’s Teachings, is absorbed into the True Guru. The Lord’s Name abides deep within the nucleus of one who realizes the Bani of the Guru’s Word within his soul. || 1 || Pause || Now, this is the essence of the teachings of the four ages: for the human race, the Name of the One Lord is the greatest treasure. Celibacy, self-discipline and pilgrimages were the essence of Dharma in those past ages; but in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Praise of the Lord’s Name is the essence of Dharma. || 2 || Each and every age has its own essence of Dharma; study the Vedas and the Puraanas, and see this as true. They are Gurmukh, who meditate on the Lord, Har, Har; in this world, they are perfect and approved. Says Nanak, loving the True Lord, the mind’s egotism and self-conceit is eradicated. Those who speak and listen to the Lord’s Name, all find peace. Those who believe in it, obtain the supreme treasure. || 4 || 4 ||

The Power of Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj - by Akaal Purakh Di Fauj

Once Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj was camping on a hill. Armies of the rajahs came to engage him in battle. "Khalsa ji, go and fight the rajahs," ordered Guru Ji.
At Guru Ji's command the Khalsa proceeded to fight the rajahs. The rajahs, however, far outnumbered them and the Khalsa could not hold its own against them. They sent a horseman to their beloved Guru with this report, "The Khalsa is retreating under pressure of the rajahs."
Maharaj at once took his bow and arrow in his hands, stood on his throne,touched the earth with his arrow on the four sides, and in a loud voice recited the sloka:
"Degh Tegh Fateh Bedrang Simrite Guru Nanak Fateh Guru Gobind Singh."
"Victory in battle, and prosperity; Concentrate on Guru Nanak, victory is with Guru Gobind Singh."
Reciting this he pulled the bow string with all his might and shot the arrow into the sky. The sky echoed and the mountain shuddered.
All men standing on the hill fell to ground because of shuddering, and repeatedly beseeched Maharaj to protect them. The hills shuddered for some time. Soon it was calm again. Guru Ji sent the horseman back to the Khalsa with the message, "Go and fight the rajahs without any fear. Victory will be yours." At this command and the blessings from their king the Khalsa pounced upon the rajahs, and crushed them.

u must read it ....12'O clock

There is an incident about the sardar's and 12 o clock

this is the story that my friend told me:

      "I was standing at dadar station when my attention

went towards a Sikh youth standing near me wearing a

Black turban having a long beard and wearing a kirpan

over his shirt.

After a while, one local train arrived, which was

totally packed. The Sikh youth tried to alight the

train but failed to do so. Just then a voice was heard

from the back coach 'Sardarji Barah Baj gaye' (Sir

it's
12 o'clock!)

The Sikh youth looked ! over at that voice maker who was

a young Mischievous type of person and instead of

showing any anger made a smile towards him.

The smile made was so enigmatic that it seemed as if

some type of truth lies behind it. Not able to resist

my temptation, I walked towards him and asked why did

he smile at that person who teased him. The Sikh youth replied, 'He
was

not teasing me but was asking for my Help'. I was surprised with these

words and he told me that there was a big history behind that which
one

should know. I was eager to know the History and the

Sikh youth narrated:

During 17th Century, when
Hindustan was ruled by

Mughals, all the Hindu people were humiliated and were

treated like animals. Mughals treated the Hindu women

as there own property and were forcing all Hindus to

accept Islam and even used to kill the people if they

were refusing to accept.That time, our ninth Guru, Sri

Guru Teg Bahadarji came forward,in response to a

request of some
Kashmir Pandits to fight against all

these cruel activities. Guruji told the Mughal emperor

that if he could succeed in converting him to Islam,

all the Hindus would accept the same.

But, if he failed, he should stop all those activities

. The Mughal emperor happily agreed to that but even

after lots of torture to Guruji and his fellow members

he failed to convert him to Islam and Guruji along

with his other four fellow members, were torture! d and sacrificed their

lives in Chandni Chowk. Since the Mughals were unable to convert them

to Islam they were assassinated.

Thus Guruji sacrificed his life for the protection of

Hindu religion. Can anybody lay down his life and that

too for the protection of another religion? This is

the reason he is still remembered as "Hind Ki

Chaddar", shield of
India . For the sake of whom he had sacrificed his

life, none of the them came forward to lift his body, fearing that
they

would also be assassinated .

Seeing this incident our 10th Guruji, Sri Guru Gobind

Singhji (Son of Guru Teg Bahadarji) founder of khalsa

made a resolution that he would convert his followers

to such human beings who would not be able to hide

themselves and could be easily located in thousands.

At the start, the Sikhs were very few in numbers as

they were fighting against the Mughal emperors. At

that time, Nadir Shah raided
Delhi in the year 1739

and looted
Hindustan and was carrying lot of Hindustan treasures and

nearly 2200 Hindu women along with him. The news spread like a fire
and

was heard by Sardar Jassa Singh who was the Commander of the Sikh army

at that time. He decided to attack Nadir Shah's Kafila on

the same
midnight . He did so and rescued all the Hindu

women and they were safely sent to their homes.

It didn't happen only once but thereafter whenever

any Abdaalis or Iranis had attacked and looted

Hindustan and were trying to carry the treasures and

Hindu women along with them for selling them in Abdal

markets, the Sikh army although fewer in numbers but

were brave hearted and attacked them at
midnight ,12

O'clock and rescued women.

After that time when there occurred a similar

incidence, people started to contact the Sikh army for

their help and Sikhs used to attack the raider's at

Midnight , 12 O'clock . Nowadays, these "smart people"

and some Sikh enemies who are afraid of Sikhs, have

spread these words that at 12 O'clock
, the Sikhs go

out of their senses. This historic fact was the reason

which made me smile over that person as I thought that

his Mother or Sister would be in trouble and wants my

help and was reminding me by saying off 'Sardarji

Barah Baj Gaye' ."

  Plz do forward this mail to all ur friends so they

can know about sikh history & its a humble appeal

PLEASE dont make fun of RELIGIONS ! as every religion is as p! ure as urs.

Always your fren

 Sr Manjeet Singh

Main Bhi Bhookha Na Rahun, Sadhu Na Bhookha Jaye
-Bhagat Kabir

Translation
Give so much O Lord, suffice to envelop my clan
May I not suffer cravings, nor any visitor go unfed

How is Sikhism a religion created by God?

Q How is Sikhism a religion created by God?

A:
The Sikh Gurus were in direct communion with God and narrated only God’s Word. Guru Nanak Dev Ji writes, “When I speak, I speak as You make me speak” (
Guru Granth Sahib, 565). Furthermore, the fourth Guru, Guru Ram Das Ji writes, “O God, O Creator, Lord and Master of the devotee Nanak, as You wish, so do I speak” (Guru Granth Sahib, 800). In addition, “O Sikhs of Guru, know that the Word of the True Guru is true, absolutely true. The Creator Lord Himself causes the Guru to chant it” (Guru Granth Sahib, 308). Everything Sikh Gurus said was instructed to them by God. Guru Arjun Dev Ji (the fifth Guru) writes, “What can I say? I don't know what to say. Whatever pleases God, so do I speak” (Guru Granth Sahib, 1202). In addition, “The Word of the Guru has been emanated from God. It eradicates all anxiety” (Guru Granth Sahib, 627).

Before the coming of the Gurus, India was filled with discrimination due to a very strong belief in the caste system. Most people believed in making pilgrimages, black magic and other such superstitions. Essentially people had forgotten God. God sent the Sikh Gurus in this world in order to enlighten people and showed them the path to salvation and eternal bliss.

The tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji writes, “I did not wanted to come in this world. My mind was immersed in God. Then somehow God explained me His purpose and sent me to this world with His directive. Then God said, ‘I establish thee as my son, You are to create a religion. Go and create a religion and stop people from doing unrighteousness and evil actions.’ I stood up, with my palms joined and bowing my head to God and said, ‘I will only be able to create a religion when You help me.’ This is the reason God send me in this world and I was born in this world. I speak as God told me. I have no enmity with anyone. Those who call me God, will fall into the pit of hell. Consider me as a humble servant of God and have no doubt about it. I am a servant of the Supreme Being and have come to witness His worldly play. I have come in this world for this purpose. God sent me for the purpose of religion. Wherever you will spread this religion, evil and wicked will be eliminated. I have taken birth for this purpose. Let the holy men understand this well. I have come to spread the divine religion, protection of the devotees of God and the annihilation (elimination) of all evils.” (
Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Vachitar Natak).

Hence Guru Gobind Singh Ji completed the purpose for which he and the nine Gurus before Him were sent: by creating the Sikh religion. God’s purpose of enlightening people was started by sending Guru Nanak Dev Ji in this world, carried on by sending the next eight Gurus and completed by sending Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Hence Sikhism is a religion created by God through the Sikh Gurus.

Women

From woman, man is born;
within woman, man is conceived; to woman he is engaged and married.
Woman becomes his friend; through woman, the future generations come.
When his woman dies, he seeks another woman; to woman he is bound.
So why call her bad? From her, kings are born.
From woman, woman is born; without woman, there would be no one at all.
Guru Nanak, Raag Aasaa Mehla 1, Page 473

These are words that were uttered by the founder of Sikhism, Sri Guru Nanak Dev in about 1499. So for Sikhs from that period, there has been compulsion to treat women as equals and gender discrimination was not allowed. However, high principles set by prophets and religious leaders have always been very difficult to implement and put into practise. In this respect, equality for women has been a difficult right to actually achieve in reality.

The Sikh Women always have been, and always will be, the backbone of the Khalsa Panth. Their selflessness lies second to none in the world. In fact, this quality of theirs has earned them the Godly qualities in their lifetime (due to the extremely important responsibilities placed on them) that their male counterparts may not be able to earn

Guru Nanak worked for the welfare of all to achieve which he strived for equality amongst all. Towards this aim, freeing the female of the overbearing influence of male was of utmost importance.

In Sikhism, the Holy Scriptures have clearly stated that the Sikh woman has always been regarded as an equal with man and has all the rights and privileges enjoyed by a man. She is considered to have the same soul as man and has equal right to grow spiritually. The Sikh woman is allowed to lead religious congregations, to take part in Akhand Path (the continuous recitation of the Holy Scriptures), to perform Kirtan, to work as Granthi (priest) or a preacher and to participate freely in all religious, cultural, social, political and secular activities.

Sikh woman have played a glorious part in Sikh History and have proven themselves as equal in service, devotion, sacrifice and bravery. Examples of their moral dignity, service and self sacrifice are and will remain a source of inspiration. Women are the backbone of the history of the Sikhs, their culture and tradition yet there is little written about this huge contribution by the Sikh women to the great history of this religion. Man and woman are two sides of the same coin - the human race. Man takes birth from a woman and woman is born of a man. This system is interrelating and inter-dependent. A man can never feel secure and complete in life without a woman. A man’s success depends upon the love and support of the woman who shares her life with him and vice versa.
